How the ferry gave the village its name
Groups of people lived around what is now known as Dobbs Ferry since at least 4500 BC. The Wecquaesgeek, the most recent tribe to claim the area, kept villages until the 1600s, and artifacts from the tribe are still found along Wicker's Creek in oyster middens.
The village is named for a ferry service started in the early 1700s by John Dobbs or his son William. It was not a licensed service, so there are no official records to pin down exactly which family member started it or when. The spot made sense for a ferry because it was the first place going north from the city where the west bank was not blocked by the sheer rock cliff known as The Palisades.
Ordering ahead from the village
Pickup orders start in the live menu, which sorts flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles and live rosin and live resin by category, and you show photo ID at the counter. The delivery page for the village shows the street-level sample results, and every delivery goes to a home or private business in New York. The driver hands each order only to the person named on it, after checking a valid photo ID that shows 21 or older, and delivery windows are scheduled at checkout.
